The AMC clinical exam waitlist is the AMC's Expression of Interest (EOI) list. It holds candidates who missed a placement and may get an offer if a place opens. As of November 2026, the list is full and closed to new requests. The AMC expects to release in-person places for 2027 exam dates in November 2026. Offers carry no timeframe and no guarantee. You can use the wait to find a job, get limited registration, or check a workplace-based assessment (WBA). The AMC says it is still adding exam capacity. Check the AMC page before you plan anything. Assess Your Pathway What the AMC clinical exam waitlist is (and is not) The EOI list works like a reserve bench. It has no queue numbers. After a scheduling release ends, the AMC tells candidates who missed out whether it added them to the list. The AMC bases that on your first preference date. Many IMGs call it the AMC waiting list, and that name causes confusion. The EOI list is: A limited reserve list for candidates who missed a placement A source of offers when a place frees up The EOI list is not: An application you can send in A queue with a position you can check A promise of a place Emailed requests do not count. The AMC said so in its January 2026 notice. How placements are allocated The AMC has not shared the full process for 2027. The May to August 2026 release shows how a recent round worked, so use it as a guide. The AMC says the process can differ between releases. Step May to August 2026 release Preferences open 9 Feb 2026, 10:00 am AEDT Preferences close 16 Feb 2026 Allocation 17 Feb, one of up to three nominated dates, first-received, first-allocated Outcome email 18 Feb Payment deadline 23 Feb, unpaid places forfeited May-August 2026 Clinical Examination Scheduling The release held over 1,000 places. You could list up to three preferred dates. The AMC asked for no payment at that stage. Candidates who missed out learned in the outcome email whether they joined the EOI list. The whole window lasted about one week. That speed explains why slots seem to vanish. Pay late and the place goes to someone else. Once you pay, the placement is final. Keep your contact details current in your AMC candidate account. The AMC sends outcome emails there. Prepare For Release Why the waitlist exists Places are limited. The AMC runs the exam at its AMC Test Centre in Melbourne, and its February to April 2026 release listed 36 places per exam day. The AMC opens places in batches, not every month. Online exams follow different rules. The AMC gives priority to registered IMGs who work in remote and rural Australia, and it does not offer online exams to candidates who live overseas. It plans no more online dates in 2026. How long will you wait? The AMC gives no timeframe. An offer can arrive anywhere from several months to a few weeks before an exam date and only if a place frees up. Staying idle costs months you could use. Treat the 2027 release as your best chance. Keep money and documents ready, because you may need to pay fast. Plan your next steps as if no offer will come soon. Plan Your Exam What to do while you wait 1 Get ready for the 2027 release Check the AMC clinical examination page every few days in November. Keep your AMC candidate account login handy and your payment method ready. Use only the official link inside your account, not a bookmark or an old email, because old links can lead to the wrong application. Read each new notice in full. 2 Apply for jobs and limited registration You do not need a clinical pass to start. After the MCQ, you apply for limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia through AHPRA. The role needs 12 months, or 47 weeks, of supervised practice, and you can pass the clinical exam during that time. GP roles also need a PESCI, a structured interview before employment. 3 Check the WBA route A workplace-based assessment (WBA) is an alternative to the clinical exam. You must already work in a clinical job at an AMC-accredited site. You cannot do WBA and sit the clinical exam at the same time. The program lasts 6 to 12 months. A pass earns the AMC Certificate. Fees vary by provider and the AMC charges its own fee too. 4 Look at the rural online priority The AMC gives online exam priority to IMGs who are registered and work in rural or remote areas. It categorises areas using the Modified Monash Model. Overseas candidates cannot use the online exam. There will be no more online dates in 2026. Request a written verification from the employer of your work location. 5 Prepare with official material Download the AMC clinical examination specifications and the tips from examiners document. Watch the candidate briefing video. The exam has 16 assessed stations. Each lasts 10 minutes, with 2 minutes for reading and 8 for the encounter. You need to pass 9 of the 14 scored stations. Practice timed 8-minute stations with a partner. 6 Plan travel after you get a place Wait for your placement confirmation before you book flights or leave. Dates can change or be cancelled, and refunds happen only in unique circumstances. The exam takes place in Melbourne. The AMC does not advise on visas, so ask the Department of Home Affairs. Build Clinical Confidence Mistakes to avoid Emailing to join the EOI list. The AMC says the list is full, and it does not accept emailed requests. Booking flights early. The AMC reserves the right to change dates, but a placement cannot move. We can guess that 2027 can be same as 2026. Variations in each release are still possible. Depending on old pages or outdated content. Some sites still give outdated EOI advice. Check the date on any source and compare it with the AMC page.
